On the twelfth day of the Short-Term Training on Climate Smart Agriculture & Livestock, officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Royal Government of Bhutan, participated in a series of cultural and educational activities in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The group was accompanied by Dr. Winitra Leelapattana, Associate Dean, and Dr. Suthira Sitthikun, Assistant Dean of Maejo University International College, who facilitated discussions and provided insights throughout
the visits.
The day commenced with a visit to Jing Jai Market, a well-known destination for organic products, traditional crafts, and native Thai cuisine. This visit allowed participants to explore sustainable agricultural practices and experience the cultural heritage of Northern Thailand. Dr. Winitra and Dr. Suthira highlighted the significance of organic farming and local entrepreneurship in promoting sustainability.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited Royal Flora Ratchaphruek, an expansive botanical garden renowned for its landscape management and contributions to eco-tourism. Here, participants learned about sustainable landscape design, biodiversity conservation, and tourism development.
Following this, the group proceeded to Wat Phra Singh, one of Chiang Mai’s most revered temples. The visit provided an opportunity to understand Thai religious traditions, Buddhist architecture, and cultural preservation, enriching their knowledge of the region’s spiritual and historical heritage.
The day concluded with an exploration of the Sunday Walking Street, a vibrant market supporting the local economy through handmade crafts, textiles, and traditional Northern Thai products. Dr. Winitra and Dr. Suthira emphasized the importance of local entrepreneurship in community development and sustainable economic growth.
These activities not only deepened the participants’ understanding of sustainable agricultural practices but also enriched their appreciation of Thailand’s cultural and economic landscape. The training continues to strengthen collaboration between Bhutan and Thailand in the fields of agriculture, sustainability, and cultural exchange.
